Rebounding from a Job Loss After Injury
Stem client Frank Van Dyke has a new website, and with it, a new blog. One of the first posts is on how to respond to a job loss when you've been in an accident.
Injury law blogging is tough to do well. Lots of lawyers finish their posts with an "injured? call now!" approach, rather than trying to be helpful.
I appreciate this type of sans-sales style of blogging. Aggregate useful information & tips, and then get it out there.

How to unshorten and shorten links
"You might be familiar with shortened links from social media or email. They’re handy for keeping things tidy and within a character limit, but you can’t see what you’re clicking on. What if the link is malicious or just a waste of time? Turn that short link into a long link with unshort.me and see where you’re going."

Lessig: MIT Report re: Aaron Swartz
"The report says that MIT never told the prosecutor that Aaron’s access was “unauthorized.""
...
"The whole predicate to the government’s case was that Aaron’s access to the network was “unauthorized,” yet apparently in the many many months during which the government was prosecuting, they were too busy to determine whether indeed, access to the network was “authorized.” "

Geist on Verizon, Privacy & Risk
Geist: "The privacy issues associated with Verizon are significant and
deserve a full airing. Yet in an effort to score points with the
public, opponents of their entry to Canada should come clean on

provide assurances that Canadians are not currently subject to

Google Alerts: Still Broken
Danny Sullivan at Search Engine Land writes that Google Alerts is still not working properly, despite Google assuring him they're working on it. At Slaw.ca, Omar Ha-Redeye has noticed the same, and wonders if Alerts is next on the chopping block, after Google announced they were pulling the plug on Reader earlier this month.
Alerts and Reader are two products that virtually every library person I know uses. It'll be interesting to see what people come up with to replace them. As Sullivan suggests, maybe this is an opportunity for Bing to step in?

The G+ spot
via Nicholas Carr: "Google+ skews pretty heavily to the publishing side. Its early core membership seems dominated by what might be called the new media axis - a combination of techies and media types who love to talk shop.
