Some thoughts about one-man IT shops

[via Dennis Kennedy]

Unfortunately, small law firms do have a lot to learn from this. A long time ago, I did systems admin at a smaller firm. This post will strike a chord with anyone who's done that solo role.

Ben Goldacre: How I stalked my girlfriend

An interesting read, and has little to do with stalking. Ben Goldacre uses online tools to track his girlfriends' mobile phone (with her permission).

Interesting because of the privacy issues, and just to know how much information your phone company has on you. Did I say 'interesting'? perhaps 'scary' is more appropriate.

Canadian Access to Information Manual

FT.com - Search engines challenged on "theft"

"Services such as Google News link to original news stories on the home pages of newspapers and magazines and display only the headline and one paragraph of the story. "That's often enough" for readers browsing the top stories, Mr O'Reilly said."

More Google copyright issues... Surprisingly, I don't have nearly as much of an issue with this as I do with caching. As I've said in other places... title, abstracts & links with full credit given - ok, but full-on copying of pages without permission, no.
