Study shows social networking at work is good

via Library Stuff, people on Slashdot are discussing this study by UK think tank Demos.

A couple interesting quotes from the study, Network Citizens: Power and Responsibility at Work:
  • "The blurring of boundaries between work and life has a good and a bad side. Making work a pleasurable environment is, on the one hand, important. Including trappings that dissolve the boundaries between work, life and play has its down side."
  • "Networks contribute to organisational resilience, a vital attribute in an economic downturn."
  • "[A] greater value ought to be placed on developing networks with people outside the firm. Too often, it is only senior staff who are encouraged to build relationships with people outside the organisation."
